slightly cheesy but this is a great version. much more easy to understand than the book

the only fault i find in this movie is that Jane is supposed to be beautiful, but i can’t stand looking at the woman who plays her in this version. She was definitely wrong physically for the part.

I liked this much better than the movie. Jennifer Ehle is the cutest thing as Lizzie. She seemed to have just the right combination of innocence and yet self confidence. Colin Firth…no words can describe his fabulous “stares”. omg…….. :)

Has to be my favorite scene in the entire movie…where both finally level with each and drop all pretense. Love it :)

When he says “dearest and loveliest Elisabeth” and they look at each other… Pure romance and makes my heart skip a beat every time. And I also agree with highschool1239 :)

I have never seen a so great story. I promise to never married somebody else than Darcy. I am also very fond of the others characters. I say thanks to Jane Austen.

i always thought he looked really suprised when she said that her opinions had changed:) i thought that was cool then he was soo cute!!! love this movie! :)

This version of the book is unbeatable. Period. =]

Amen!

Its a matter of preference I guess. I enjoy both. One is more true to the book and superbly done and the other is dreamier and romantic.

I love both for what each represent. I cannot choose.

Yes, but this is I guess the more “close-to-the-Brit-feeling” adaptation of the novel I’ve seen…Besides, I wouldn’t have chosen that actress: not that she was not good, but not fitted the role very much…Ciao ;-)

Best version!:)

Hmm, I feel as if I like the movie version better.
Matthew was just GORGEOUS as Mr. Darcy.

@McLotjuh Yeah, I think likewise. This is a respectably accurate adaptation, much closer to the book, and with stupendous actors, of course.

Yet the new one has a special magic. For example, this scene is less wordy in the new film, and still, communicated much deeper feelings and encompassed much stronger emotions from my point of view.

This is particularly true for most of the movie, which was made both caring to the original context, and yet with a somewhat modern perspective. D.R.

@Appeley2 I would’ve liked the Keira Knightly one a lot better if Colin Firth was Darcy

I can think of no better Mr. Darcy than Colin Firth. This scene always gets me misty.

The story in this movie is better kept by the book, however the new movie i find that the characters are better chosen, i feel it to be more realistic.

It’s just so much better with the new mr. darcy and keira haha

just in her performance in this movie and not in general (havent really followed either’s career)

Oh I didnt like the new Mr Darcy at all. Aside from his looks. But actually Ive come to appreciate this older one and Firth’s performance. And Jennifer Ehle has a great voice. I didn’t like Keira Knightley’s girly portrayal but then she may have been closer to Lizzie’s age and so captured that age better..but Jennifer Ehle just comes across as the better actress, the classier one.

I just can’t you know, can’t compare anything that tries to come near to the Pride and Prejudice with Keira Knightly. Just can’t.. when I look at this I think.. well the one with Keira Knightly was more romantic and not so amature lol.. Yeah just saying I guess.

@SugarTomAppleRoger
Jupp, I agree!

I think this is the best version honestly. :)

This is very dated. The one by Keira Knightley is the best. Greer Garson is not a good actress either.

Matthew Macfadyen is a so much better actor than Larry Olivier. Knightly is also light years better looking and a better actress than Greer Garson, who turned down the lead in Gone With the Wind, played by Vivian Leigh, later Mrs Olivier. Imagine how much better Keira would have been in Gone With the Wind. They should do a remake also with Matthew Macfadyen. He also is so much better and famous than Clark Gable.
