Gay Marriage–Wrong Battle!!!

Two common perceptions of Christians: 1) We say one thing but live a completely different way. 2) We condemn gays and homosexuals.

You’re an idiot.

@JadedRockStar84 Makes sense.

@1ballerina Agreed. If your main concern is having the same rights as everyone else, you should understand that some have different views (like the church) and they have the freedom to practice their beliefs as well. Marriage doesn’t actually happen in a church, it happens in the courthouse. I’m sure a black couple wouldn’t try to get married by a Justice of the Peace that’s also a Klan member, during a KKK meeting.

@violentlygraceful I believe that homosexuals should have all the rights in a union that heterosexual couples have. I also believe that churches should have the right to choose who they shall marry based on their religious beliefs.

Good on ya Jack. Thanks for this. When i see Christians living according to what they preach, I just might take your religion a wee bit more seriously.

As a disbeliever, I also support you. When you condemn the hypocrites, I think they will abandon your religion. If Christian churches really try to preach the bible, it will shrink and finally disappear, just like all the religions that preceded it.

Heart felt video! But seems to me the hypocrisy will continue as long as people keep looking and praying to a god outside of them, to a concept of a god divided from us. When realizing the universal is already there as the very beat of the heart, one never needs to pray again. One does not rely anymore on faith or belief, but knows and understands. Belief and faith are always the easy targets of doubt. And doubt is a seed of religious hypocrisy (i.e. I must condemn others to assuage my doubt)

@MrJmm999 lol!

@bayesianconspiracy TFP did talked alot about sexual sin,but he mentioned greed for power,money, and hypocracy.

Self righteous indignation against those trapped in sin is wrong, it’s not like Jesus, not loving; Including when their sin is being unloving.

This was a good vid, TFP. You seem like a decent guy. But the problem I have with religious ethics still shines through: the only moral issues you cared to mention were about sex.

About 20,000 people (or 4 times the death toll of 9/11) died today of preventable diseases, and you’re still mostly concerned about the penis/vagina/anus hokey-pokey.

Sex isn’t even a feather in the scales.

@ExaggeratedElegy
Remember that this is about the proper manner and order in which Christians should peruse debates of morality. It is not about the validity of Jesus, the bible, or Christianity as a faith.

@ExaggeratedElegy
The legitimacy of the bible to be a doctrinal source is a bit of a red herring. God is perfect and just in all ways. He is free to declare what is morally right. Gods own perfection is the bases for our judgments. He calls all of us to be perfect. We try very hard, but we mess up. That is why there is forgiveness and grace. Then we as American citizens guided by our morality of what is right and wrong go out and vote.

Pornography is running rampant in Churches????? Where can i sign up? Are there churches where it is running more rampant? Any recommendations?

@shoulung

…proclaiming homosexuality a “sin,” it’s people reading an ancient book without much in the way of consideration or consistency.

@shoulung

..outside of any particular theology or religion, I see constantly; individuals or entire groups proclaiming absolute morality with one breath then attempting to justify their own violations thereof with the other. The best way those who proclaim such morality could operate with regards to making themselves heard is by setting an example and living as they preach. How often does that happen? Not very from an outside perspective.

And no, it isn’t “God” proclaiming homosexuality…

@shoulung

I’m not talking about Christians in general; I’m talking about the attitude you demonstrate in your comments. What Jack is rather clearly stating is: according not only to the bible, but to any definition of logical morality, one must have some basis for judgement or condemnation. If one is condemning others on a basis that one is violating or not living to oneself, one is a hypocrite, and cannot expect anyone to take them seriously. This is something that, as one who exists…

Gay marriage wrong battle? No that is far to small LEGISLATION in it entirety is the wrong battle.

This is no theocracy, faith is not and should not be law. Faith is personal not legal.

@ExaggeratedElegy
Christians don’t think they are absolved from anything. I have never met a Christian who thought they were off the hook because they went to church.

This is just Jack condemning Christians so he can be popular and look like he is “one of the good guys”. This video is far more about image than actual substance.

Now if he had a good reason to accept homosexuality I would think about it. But it isn’t Christians saying homosexuality is wrong, it’s God.

@shoulung

This is a rather elaborate way of saying: We get to condemn others for not living up to a particular standard but are absolved from living up to it ourselves. The very definition of hypocrisy.

@jvforever72 Thanks, You too.

@dyz120

nice talking to you, have a decent life

@jvforever72 Isn’t that what I told you?

@dyz12003

if we abide by the no sexual contact edict, we will cease to exist dummy

@jvforever72 Now what are you talking about? You are just all over the place. Form a coherent thought and get back to me. You’re just not going to deal with Gen 1:28 or the Song of Songs for that matter. The fall was not sexual in nature. You lose. Get over it.

Maybe that’s the ironic aspect of existence and a promise of a holy land, if we abide by the law, we are all doomed.
