The book has very strong christian values through out it. I didn’t like it. I am 19 and I will be getting engaged in May (I’ll be 20 then). My boyfriend and I were looking for a pre marital book that could help us understand each other even more. We currently have been dating for 4 years and in my opinion the book words the quesions in a scientific way. I defiently would not recommend it to anyone but old traditional christians.

Religion is a sticking point and source of tension for many couples, but if it’s not, or if you are not Christian, this book will disappoint. Chock full of bible verses. Questions such as “Which Sunday School teacher influenced you the most?” and “Are there any limits placed upon the wife’s submission by Colossians 3:18 and Acts 5:29?” simply do not apply to everyone.

For the most part, this book is very helpful in having each person really think about what they are getting into and situations that may arise that will affect their relationship. Especially good is chapter 4 and 7, which deals with how each of you would deal with certain situations (such as inability to have kids, financial crises) as well as expectations each of you have for your relationship/marriage. My only criticism is that it is a bit sexist, focusing on the man being the head of the household and the leader…while there are passages in the bible that stress this, this seems to be emphasized in the author’s writing and this seems to be a bit antiquated thinking. I think many people believe more in an equal partnership these days vs. having the hubby being the “leader” and the wife “servves” him. But other than this point, a very thought provoking book - spawns good conversations between the two of you…conversations that should be had before committing to a marriage!

It”s a great book…but remember…only if you mean what you say and only if you answer in truth, and only if you mean to stick with what you say. EAsy it is to answer the way you suppose you should, then drop it all after the “I do” has become an “I did”

Excellent book! It covers quite a bit and gets the couple to talk about many things, some of which they may not think to discuss before marriage. It helps give both people a good idea at what the other expects and wants in a marriage, and helps both people see where the other is coming from and more about the other person’s background, family history, etc. It helps them see what makes that person who they are, and helps a person see what helps form what the other person wants and needs.
